Conducting Workshop

March 17-18, 2017

Registration now open!

Join VCU faculty members Dr. Terry Austin, Professor Dennis Zeisler (ODU) and Prof. Daniel Myssyk for a weekend of music-making, personal growth, meaningful collaboration with colleagues, and the opportunity to take the next step in reaching your full potential as a conductor and teacher.

This workshop is designed for middle and high school band and orchestra directors interested in enhancing their conducting skills and musicianship. It is designed to enable each participant to reach their full expressive potential and increase their ability to effectively communicate their musical vision of the pieces they conduct to their school ensembles. Participants will enjoy opportunities to conduct college-level performing ensembles (symphony orchestra and wind ensemble) as well as being a part of break-out sessions and discussions of special topics such as effective rehearsal techniques for the school ensemble, musical and technical problem-solving within the rehearsal, stylistic considerations and much more! You will not want to miss out on this tremendous opportunity. Enrollment space is limited to 16 conducting participants (8 band and 8 orchestra) in order to allow enough quality time with the ensembles. Non-conducting participation is also encouraged.

There are 2 levels of participants: band conductors, and orchestra conductors and auditors. Conductors receive recertification credits for their participation. They will be allowed two 15-minute conducting slots over the weekend. Special topics TBA. Break-out sessions will include other faculty members.  Recertification credits: Participants will be given the opportunity to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for their participation into the workshop. VCU’s Office of Continuing Studies is a sponsor of this program.

Fees:
$375/conducting participant
$225/non-conducting participant
