To the VCUarts Community,

This last week has been a difficult one for our country, our university, and our school. Incredible pressures pervade, inside and out of our community, and I know that many of us feel unsettled.

We want our community to be one where all people are valued, where difference is respected and we treat one another with dignity.

We cannot create a community like this by simply stating it to be so—we must live it every day. We must strive always to be our better selves, to support one another, to be kind to one another, to speak our minds, and to forgive.

Let us continue to work to make VCUarts the place where we can be our unique selves—where we can support one another and be supported by our talented colleagues, peers, and friends. Let us reaffirm our commitment to our community and our core values.

On this election eve, I encourage all of you to exercise your right to vote tomorrow.

Warm regards,
Shawn Brixey
