Alexander Tochilovsky Lecture

Design History as a Model of Studio Practice

Thursday 5 November 2015
Grace Street Theater

Alexander Tochilovsky was born in Odessa, USSR, (presently Ukraine). He teaches at The Cooper Union School of Art. In the fall of 2009 he co-curated an exhibition Lubalin Now with Mike Essl, and was named Curator of the Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography in 2010. Tochilovsky curated the exhibition Appetite: A Reciprocal Relationship Between Food and Design for the Lubalin Center in 2010, followed by Pharma in 2011.

The lecture positions Herb Lubalin as a model of a studio practice, drawing on the projects he accomplished over his lifetime, the people he surrounded himself with. It will be framed it from the curators own perspective as a designer, educator, collection custodian and historian.
