Guest Lecturer: Sass Brown

VCU Fashion is excited to welcome Sass Brown.  Ms. Brown will be working with fashion design and merchandising students and give a talk on sustainable design and eco fashion.

Sass Brown is Acting Assistant Dean for the School of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology.  As a researcher, writer, blogger and educator, her area of expertise is eco fashion, in all of its various expressions, from slow design and heritage craft skills to recycle, reuse and new business models. Ms. Brown communicates and promotes the best in eco fashion design, through a multitude of media, most notably her books; Eco Fashion and ReFashioned, her website and her journalism.sass brown flyer low res

Visiting Artist Steven Broadway

VCU Fashion will be hosting fashion illustrator Steven Broadway September 25 – September 26.  During his visit he will work with each level of fashion design student and conduct a fashion drawing workshop that is open to other arts majors.  For more information, please contact Kim Guthrie at kguthri1@vcu.eduSteven Broadway poster sept 26th

VCU Qatar Day

VCU Qatar Day took place on Tuesday, September 30th.  For the past several years, students, staff, and faculty members from VCU Qatar travel from Doha to spend a week on the Richmond campus.  VCU Qatar Day helps spread awareness about our international campus in Doha, Qatar through its cultural traditions and interactions.  This year’s show spotlighted the senior collection of Hisham Dawoud.

VCU Fashion in Florence…another successful summer program

This year, students were able to experience Florence for five weeks.  During the program, students attended two of the industries’ most important trade shows, Pitti Uomo and Pitti Filati.  They visited Milan, Rome, Siena, and Chianti. The session, June 17 – July 22, was led by program director Kim Guthrie. Courses offered during this session were Fashion Forecasting and Italian Fashion History and Italian Fashion Language.



VCU Fashion NYFW Event

VCU Fashion hosted its first New York Fashion Week event on Monday, September 9th at Alger House in the West Village. The invitation only event spotlighted six collections from the graduating class of 2013, five from the Richmond campus and one from our Doha campus.
