stephen vitiello

Through a career in sound art, electronic music and soundtrack composition, Stephen Vitiello has created works in which sound is a primary medium. At the same time, he has collaborated across disciplines, including working with award winning artists, dancers and choreographers, novelists, poets and a biologist. His breakthrough moment came when he accepted a residency on the 91st floor of the World Trade Center. The sound work that resulted from the WTC/WorldViews residency was featured in the 2002 Whitney Biennial and acquired by the Whitney. In this lecture, Vitiello discusses the interdisciplinary power and potential of audio and visual art, especially at VCUarts.
