Denver Walker has known since she was a child that she would be a musician. Her love of music has not wavered since. She began playing guitar at age 13 under her father’s instruction and began studying classical guitar at age 18.

At 18 she began her studies at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). There she studied under Charlie Moeser, David Toussaint, and John Patykula. VCU gave Denver many opportunities such as master classes, collaborations and performance opportunities. She was the recipient of the Jesús Silva Merit Scholarship at VCU. Denver gave her junior recital in 2012, and her senior recital in April of 2013. Denver graduated with her B.M. in Music Performance from VCU in May of 2013.

During her studies at VCU Denver was a dedicated student and an active musician in the Richmond area. She performed for years with Flamenco inspired ensemble, Sueños Gitanos. She was asked to play in the VCU Flamenco Festival multiple times, was a soloist with the VCU Community Ensemble and has performed in Alumni Recitals at VCU. In addition to a vibrant performing career, Denver has taught for many years, privately and as the guitar ensemble instructor at St. Catherine’s School in Richmond. She also taught for many years at Key Signatures, also located in Richmond. She is currently an adjunct for the Music Therapy and Guitar Deparments at Shenandoah Conservatory teaching graduate and undergraduate students. She is responsible for teaching the courses, Clinical Guitar Skills I-V, Guitar Ensembles, Guitar Consort and Guitar Studio Class. She also holds a virtual private studio in Winchester, VA.

Denver earned her Master’s of Performance degree at Shenandoah University with Julian Gray in 2017. During this degree she was awarded an assistantship. In addition, she was asked to perform in masterclasses with SoloDuo, Stephen Robinson and Andrew Zohn. She gave two Graduate Recitals and performed at the Live at Lunch series at Valley Health. Currently, Denver is pursuing a D.M.A. at Shenandoah.
