Join the VCU Alumni African American Alumni Council and VCUarts as we celebrate the commemoration of the fine arts building in honor of former School of the Arts Dean Murry N. DePillars, Ph.D.
This online program will celebrate the legacy of DePillars, who served as dean of VCUarts from 1976–95. During his 20 years of leadership, VCUarts flourished, growing to become one of the largest arts schools in America with expanded performing arts facilities, partnership on city jazz festivals and high-profile fashion shows. These events — many organized by the dean himself — realized his goal of bringing a diverse public together.
The program will feature reflections from former students and colleagues; a virtual tour of the DePillars building, located at 1000 W. Broad St.; and jazz music.
