Dr. Philip Ewell: Music Theory’s White Racial Frame

Dr. Philip Ewell, Associate Professor of music theory at Hunter College, will present a webinar on a critical-race examination of music theory. Dr. Ewell’s recent writing and speaking address the issue of Western music theory’s “White Racial Frame,” and in his presentation he will highlight the white structures of the field and how these structures have a negative impact on the racial makeup of music theory. VCU Music Assistant Professor Dr. Taylor Barnett will host the webinar and attendees will be able to submit questions, which Dr. Ewell will address during a Q&A section.
