VCU School of the Arts invites you to celebrate the artistic legacy of Murry N. DePillars, Ph.D., who served as dean from the 1976 until 1995. As a scholar, educator, arts advocate and artist, this exhibition offers the opportunity to see how he applied his talent and academic training by weaving American social themes and aspects of African heritage in visually spellbinding and painstakingly executed compositions. A survey of twelve artworks covering 40 years of his creative efforts have been selected by Mrs. Mary DePillars and Richard Woodward, curator of African Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. All works are from the collection of Mrs. Mary L. DePillars.
