The Department of Sculpture + Extended Media presents a visiting artist lecture by Dave McKenzie on Wednesday, April 5 at 12pm at the Bowe Street Parking Deck, Room 535, 609 Bowe St, Richmond, VA.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Dave McKenzie uses video, sculpture, performance, and installation to explore how public space and the private self are simultaneously alienated, connected, and restricted. At the center of this practice lies a desire for interactions that lay bare the complications of social rules and obligations with which we navigate personal relationships.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1977, McKenzie received a B.F.A. in printmaking from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2000. McKenzie is the recipient of several awards including: Rome Prize, American Academy in Rome; Guna S. Mundheim Visual Arts Fellowship, American Academy in Berlin; USA Rockefeller Fellowship, United States Artists; Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award; William H. Johnson Prize. Residencies include  the Studio Museum in Harlem and PS1 National and International Studio Program.

He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
