Cate Latham, a cum laude graduate of the VCU Fashion Department, began her career in costume design and production, working in TV, film, theater, and with the Richmond Ballet. In 2014, she founded Van Herten Outerwear, a brand specializing in waxed canvas and leather which has since been featured in publications such as the Wall Street Journal and RVA Magazine.
Since 2016, Latham has been a faculty member at VCU Fashion where she specializes in 3D apparel design and is an accredited CLO instructor. During this time, she received three research grants for projects focused on sustainable apparel production, an important part of Latham’s design ethos. Through her teaching, she aims to help students find their place in the fashion industry and take control of their personal career path.
