VCU Dance majors take dance classes and rehearse in the seven studios of the Dance Center; at the Depot Annex Studio, and in the Grace Street Theater. The Dance Office houses the department’s administrative and faculty offices, as well as instructional space.

Virginia Commonwealth University’s Grace Street Theater is a little known but successful example of renovation and adaptive use of a historic property. The building originally opened in 1935 as the Lee Theatre, a neighborhood movie theater showing second-run films.

The Depot and the Depot Annex opened in fall 2014. Together they provide nearly 30,000 square feet of new space for the School of the Arts. The buildings house a student gallery, a commercial space, kinetic imaging studio classrooms, a dance studio and ample space for interdisciplinary projects.
