Hannah Shaban received her MFA from the Department of Craft/Material Studies in 2019 with a focus on ceramic sculpture. She is from Charlotte, North Carolina and received her BFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As the daughter of Lebanese immigrants and a frequent traveller to the Middle East, her realistic works are inspired by the ever-evolving Western perspective of the Middle East and North Africa. Using elements of ‘orientalist’ art layered with her current, Arab subjects, she attempts to reconcile the cultural divide through the initiation of physical and spatial interactions with her ceramic figures.
