Art Foundation

Phillip Bowles is a classically trained figurative oil painter. Born in 1983 in Richmond, Virginia, Phillip graduated with a BFA in Communication Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006. He received his MFA from The School of Visual Arts’ Illustration As Visual Essay program in 2011. He continued his studies at The Florence Academy of Art’s U.S. branch in Jersey City, NJ, from 2015 – 2017. Phillip was selected to be the Artist-in-Residence at Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH, from 2018 – 2021. Phillip returned to Richmond in the spring of 2021 and is currently an Adjunct Instructor in the Art Foundation and Communication Arts programs. His work has been exhibited in galleries and universities in the United States and can be found in numerous private collections.
