Meredith Riley is a violinist currently residing in Alexandria, VA. Ms. Riley received her BMus in Violin Performance at the University of Texas with Brian Lewis and completed graduate work in Advanced Music Studies at Carnegie Mellon University under the tutelage of Andres Cardenes.

Ms. Riley enjoys a varied career as an orchestral player, chamber musician, teacher, jazz violinist, and musical collaborator. Meredith has served as Associate Principal second violin of the Richmond Symphony since 2018, and joined the symphony as a core member in 2017. Other contracted orchestral experience includes Principal Second violin of the Erie Philharmonic, acting Concertmaster for Johnstown Symphony, and appearances with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Pops, Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Williamsburg Symphony, Gateways Festival Orchestra, Canton Symphony, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and Sphinx Virtuosi.

Ms. Riley’s past accolades include recognition in the Young Texas Artist Awards, Crescendo Music Awards, the National Sphinx Competition for African American and LatinX string players, (Bank of America Fellow for the National Alliance for Audition Support’s inaugural program in 2018), and selection as a Young Artist for the Starling Delay Symposium at the Juilliard School. Solo appearances include those with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, New England String Orchestra, and both University of Texas Symphony Orchestras.

As a devoted chamber musician, Riley has twice performed with the Smithsonian Chamber Players and with the Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia. Her more recent chamber festivals include Wintergreen Music Festival, Sunflower Music Festival, Toronto Summer Music Festival, NewPark Chamber Music Festival, Chautauqua MSFO, Domaine Forget’s intensive chamber music program, St. Lawrence String Seminar, Music by the Sea in Bamfield, BC, a quartet residency at Steamboat Strings Music Festival, national tours with Sphinx Virtuosi and an international tour to Sherbrooke QC and Nantes, France with Collective 9.

Meredith’s rewarding outreach with Sphinx Virtuosi led her to accept a position as Director of Education position for Alexandria Symphony Orchestra’s Sympatico program in 2021. Ms. Riley is also an adjunct instructor of violin at Virginia Commonwealth University and has a small private violin studio of students in Alexandria and Richmond.
