Karmalita Bawar is the financial and HR assistant for Music. She has worked in various support positions for the department since 1989.
Other unique achievements Bawar brings to VCU Music include: working for many years at the VCU Community School for the Performing Arts where she enjoyed teaching to a diverse Richmond population; making music as a Carnegie Hall-trained collaborative artist for “The Lullaby Project” – a joint project at VCUarts and VCU Women’s Health; and creating “Music at Massey” – a grant-funded collaboration between VCU Music, VCU Massey Cancer Center, and VCU Arts in Healthcare, where VCU music students and affiliates were paid to perform for cancer patients at the Stony Point location.
She also teaches private piano lessons in her own studio, Piano Basics of Richmond. Bawar received her BM in music composition and theory from VCUarts.
