On November 23, the 2022 Grammy Nominations were announced, including several VCU-related nominees.
In the category of Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album, VCU Jazz faculty Jazz Bass Prof. Eric Wheeler performs on the newly Grammy nominated album by vocalist Jazzmeia Horn and Her Noble Force: “Dear Love” (Empress Legacy Records).
Alumnus Steve Wilson (alto saxophone, soprano saxophone, flute) is heard on the nominated album “For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver” (Mack Avenue) by the Christian McBride Big Band.
Trombone alumnus Alvin Walker performs on the nominated album “Live At Birdland!” (Candid Records)
In the category of Best Jazz Vocal Album, jazz drum alumnus Devonne Harris (“DJHarrison”) is heard on keyboards within the Kurt Elling & Charlie Hunter nominated album “SuperBlue” (Edition Records). Also performing is VCU Jazz Day alumnus Corey Fonville (drums, percussion).
