Marisa Stratton is a senior who was attracted to the Communication Arts Department for its technical foundation, and impressive faculty work. With the help of the department, she has gained mentors, an internship at a local gallery, and several opportunities to exhibit her work. She appreciates the strong foundation and industry integration of the department. Her experience in the department has re-framed her mindset, so she now approaches inspiration and creation head on and doesn’t wait for motivation. Marisa plans on working as a freelance illustrator, and figurative painter after she completes her studies at VCU. Her words of wisdom for the world is “to always do work for yourself, not for your professor or the assignment.”
