Stephen Vitiello’s New Public Art Piece

Categories

Congratulations to Stephen Vitiello on the unveiling of his new sound sculpture, “Land Buoy Bells”, which is the first permanent piece to reside in Seattle’s waterfront park. The mechanics underneath the bells operate based on the rise and fall of the floating dock on which the piece is installed. When the water is calm the bells are silent, but when waves roll in, the bells make industrial chimes. Vitiello wanted to create a piece that could be “environmentally played” to really capture the ever-changing environment of Seattle’s waterfront.
