KI alumni Odile Postic and Bri Ondris return to VCU for their show Pirates Utopias, on view in the FAB Gallery from January 16 through February 1.
“Pirate Utopias is a curation that focuses on the manufactured desire and how it operates like a carrot on a string, propelling us forward, dressing us in new clothes, new environments, glossy and new forms of the same ideology. Postmodernism, when taken at face value, becomes prescriptive to the subject’s sense of self. In the age of Epstein, Bezos, wealth beyond any historical numbers, late capitalism becomes a condition; an “enlightened” lack of clarity, only apparent through psychosis, the transcendence of the ego. The subject’s idea of self is exchanged like currency, instagram filters, online quizzes “Which Game of Thrones character are you””
