This past month Dr. Kate Sicchio, one of our assistant professors, wrote an article for Dancegeist Magazine. Her article, titled A History of Performance Online, takes a deep dive through the past 3 digital decades and discusses how the Internet has shaped performance art. From video performances in our homes all the way to actually creating an interactive digital experience, dance and performance art has been experimenting with all the new tools the Internet has to offer since the 90s. She discusses the specific innovations of each decade and how they can be useful to performers now during the pandemic.  She notes that while the pandemic has allowed many to experiment further with online performance, we should remember that artists have been paving the way for decades now.
