Kinetic Imaging graduate student, Eric Millikin, has been recognized recently for his touching and haunting collage. The collage features around 900 faces of those who passed away from COVID-19, most are Black men and women from Detroit. During the pandemic, many predominantly Black cities like Detroit have been more negatively impacted than other cities. Millikin attributes this to the way our society is structured; how through institutionalized racism our culture has set up people of color to be the most negatively affected. In this collage, the artist pays homage to those that were systematically failed and the heartbreak that cities much like Detroit have experienced over this pandemic. Following a feature in the Detroit Free Press, Millikin’s work has been recognized by Debbie Stabenow, a Michigan senator, as well as the Detroit Tigers
