Fall 2023 Internship Opportunities at The Anderson

The Anderson is offering two Internship positions for Fall 2023: Photography + Social Media and Gallery Preparator. Internships are open to all qualified VCUarts students. See position descriptions below for full details and application instructions.

* Photography & Social Media Intern

The Anderson is seeking a student to serve as the gallery’s Photography & Social Media Intern for the Fall 2023 semester. This intern will document exhibitions, artworks, performances, and events, as well as edit and organize files. The intern will also help manage promotion of Anderson programming via social media and identify and execute opportunities for audience engagement on Instagram.

The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, adept with social media, highly proficient in digital photography and videography tools (including Photoshop/Lightroom), and able to manage multiple projects at once. Photography student preferred. Applicants must be comfortable working as part of a diverse, inclusive, and dynamic community. Priority will be given to third and fourth year undergraduate or graduate students. 

The internship is for credit (3 credit hours). The anticipated time commitment is 10 hours/week, with the strong likelihood of ‘light’ and ‘heavy’ weeks. * Gallery Preparator Intern (UPDATE: this position has been been filled for Fall 2023)

The Anderson is seeking student applicants for the Gallery Preparator Internship for the Fall 2023 semester. This intern’s duties will include a wide range of tasks connected with the production of exhibitions at the Anderson including: transportation, handling, packing and installation of artworks; buildout and fabrication in connection with exhibitions; maintenance of equipment, galleries and storage space in support of exhibitions and general gallery operations. 

The ideal candidate will be proficient in the use of hand and power tools, have some experience with rough carpentry, and be familiar with the standard materials and making methods of fine art objects. Applicants must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and be comfortable working on ladders and scaffolding. Due to the lack of an elevator, applicants must also be comfortable with frequent use of stairs, including carrying objects up and down stairs. Experience with standard exhibition technology (computers, media players, projectors, monitors, audio systems, etc.) is a plus. Applicants must be comfortable working as part of a diverse, inclusive, and dynamic community. A current driver’s license is required.
