Create a lasting legacy

VCU School of the Arts alumni have a special opportunity to get involved in VCU’s Service Awards Program, which is recognized as a model throughout Virginia. Beginning in 1996, VCU began offering a “milestone gift” to employees celebrating 25 or more years of service to the university and VCU Health.

This unique gift is a signed limited-edition (of 50) art piece created by a VCU artist. This piece of art holds great meaning to the employees who receive it. Artists who have contributed work in the past include David Freed, Joe Grant, Jude Schlotzhauer, Jim Chalkley, Neil Duman and Emilio Santini.

As alumni, you have the chance to leave a lasting impression on people who have devoted decades of service to our university.

The choice of medium is up to you. Previous artists have created etchings, platters, bowls, vases, mosaics, glassware and woodwork.

Prototypes are due no later than May 31. If selected, Human Resources will ask the artist to provide two pieces for display and pictures to be posted on the VCU gift website. Orders will be taken in August and early September. Gifts will need to be packaged for delivery to recipients in early October. The budget per item is $175.

Due to the current COVID-19 quarantine, instead of sending a prototype at this time, VCU requests photos of the work from each angle. These photos can be emailed to Cindi Phares in Human Resources, at cphares@vcu.edu. If you have any questions, please email Cindi or call (804) 828-1521.

If you are unable to participate, but know of an artist with a VCU connection who might be interested, please pass this opportunity along to them!
