Craft Consciousness Exhibition

March 3 – 13

The Anderson is pleased to present Craft Consciousness, a juried exhibition featuring 24 Crafts/Material Studies undergraduate students, organized and curated by the Anderson’s Fall 2020 – Spring 2021 curatorial research intern, Chlo Finley.

Representing the five disciplines of VCUarts’ craft program, department area heads Blair Clemo (Clay), Jack Wax (Glass), Hillary Waters-Fayle (Fiber), Scott Braun (Wood), and Susie Ganch (Metal) juried submissions from Crafts/Material majors and minors ranging from sophomores to seniors.

From the curator:

Craft Consciousness is an exploration into the identity of contemporary makers and their relationship to the materials they choose to work with. This exhibition is a presentation of the skill and dialogue being fostered within VCU’s Crafts/Material Studies program and demonstrates not only what students are fabricating, but what they are thinking about.

Featured artists include: Emma Worth, Cole Gillions, Emelia Stern, Madeleine Dugan, Carolina Gaillard, Alex Mihalski, Maggie Peyton, Lieselotte Elliehausen, Brianna Cappelli, Neve Coppersmith, Kat Nash, Arrington Peterson, Kayleigh MacDonald, Dani Simons, Os Bender, Sophie Copeland, Lily Pressman, Tiffany Kong, Rhythm Sutherland, Abby Treece, Cidney Oleniacz, Madie Maier, Andy Lizak, and A.
