Community News from Sculpture + Extended Media: September 2021

MFA students hosted their annual Pecha Kucha on Sept. 8th to introduce their work and discuss their interests and practice.

Undergraduate student Hien KAT Nguyen‘s solo show In the Theme of Home was on view at the Anderson on campus from September 21st – October 2nd. In the Theme of Home tells stories about losing a sense of home through the lens of the displaced. Combining both sculptures and performance video, Hien Nguyen’s installation suggests a gaze into her own experiences with migration, cultural practice, influences and decision making. By evaluating her experiences as a Vietnamese young adult who emigrated to the United States, Hien became aware that Vietnam is no longer her home but the US would never fully accept her. It is the moment of realization that she does not actually belong anywhere.
