The Communication Arts program at VCUarts is happy to introduce a new Visual Effects Minor that is open for all students to apply to!
The course will focus on aspects learned in Communication Arts, such as 2D and 3D software, digital filming, compositing, motion-capture, and applicable post-production workflows, and in relation to Cinema will focus on the mechanics of screenwriting to serve as a foundation for interpreting narrative storytelling into a visual effects storyboard. An ability to draw is not required for success in this minor.
Led by industry experts like Prof. Matt Wallin (Watchmen, I am Legend, Call of Duty) and Senior Director TyRuben Ellingson (Jurassic Park, Avatar, Mimic) this new program is designed for motivated students who want a professional career in post-production and visual effects.
Students will take six 3-credit classes that are required for the minor:
- CINE 217 | Mechanics of Screenwriting
- COAR 203 | Digital 3D Studio
- COAR 308 | Cut Scene
- COAR 432 | 3D Image and Movement
- COAR 436 | Visual Effects I
- COAR 437 | Visual Effects II
To apply, students should navigate to the VCU Change of Major or Minor Application page.
Cinema students will click on the Change of Minor form.
Once filled out, they will receive an email from SlideRoom with further instructions on how to apply.
The deadline to apply by is November 1st so be sure to get your materials in before then!
