Creative Arts Day Camp

Summer 2019 Program Overview

Thank you all for a wonderful summer! Please check back early next year for Summer 2020 enrollment!

The Department of Art Education at VCUarts is offering the Creative Arts Day Camp for children rising into grades K- 9. Classes are divided by age, and four classes are offered each session. Classes are held on the VCU campus and are taught by graduate and undergraduate art education students. The camp will provide students with experience in a variety of media including sculpture, digital media, printmaking, painting, drawing, bookmaking, fibers, and more.

The Summer 2019 theme is “Radical Imagination.” Radical Imagination implies creating opportunities for students to go a step beyond what they might experience in the regular art classroom. We hope to create experiences that help students to be critical of the world around them and have meaningful and engaging experiences with art. The camp will be organized into weekly sub-themes: Knowledge, Investigation, Power, Empowerment, Action, and Reaction.

Lessons will change each week, so participants are encouraged to sign up for more than one session. A session is equivalent to one week. Each session will cost $250. Join our teachers for a summer of innovative art-making!
