Designed for students interested in developing their passion for theatre, students will spend seven to eight hours daily swashing swords, acting for camera techniques, and developing their improv/sketch comedy skills. Under the watchful eyes of some of the nation’s most renowned master teachers, this course provides training for the curious, yearning to develop their talent in a safe and nurturing environment, in three areas:
Students will work with experienced professional fight choreographers to learn safe and fun techniques for various scenes involving both unarmed and armed stage combat. Have fun with your fellow classmates mastering sword play and other stage combat techniques.
Acting for the Camera
Explore your inner television or movie star as you learn the skills and techniques to successfully act on camera. Students will work on short scenes and monologues with professional equipment, and will also film short sequences using their mobile phone cameras.
Skills based on improvisational techniques are useful for any career the young artist might pursue, and the 21st century serves as the gateway for some of the country’s best known and beloved performers including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Will Farell, Stephen Colbert and Flo (the Progressive Insurance spokesperson).
The student cohort will deliver a performance of their newly learned skills in the above areas at the conclusion of the program as well as enjoy a performance at Richmond’s acclaimed Virginia Repertory Theatre.
