Laura Matthews is a first year MFA Theatre Pedagogy student, originally from Massachusetts. She graduated from Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL) with a Bachelor’s in Musical Theatre and Interdisciplinary Communication Studies. After graduation she moved to Chicago and worked as an actor and teaching artist. She has enjoyed working with companies such as Emerald City Theatre, American Theatre Company, The Comrades, 20% Theatre, and Red Tape Theatre.
Laura is a certified Alexander Technique teacher and recognized member of the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT). She trained under Master Teacher, Daria Okugawa at the ATTiC (Alexander Technique Training in Chicago), a three year 1600 hours teacher training program. She has enjoyed a role as a teaching assistant at Roosevelt University and The School for Theatre Creators.
She was lucky enough to return to Elmhurst College in 2015 as an adjunct faculty member. She taught acting classes and private Alexander technique lessons to both theatre and music students. Last fall, she directed a production of Lauren Gunderson’s, I and You.
