Independent Study Application Form

Students with junior or senior standing may apply to the department for Independent Study (MHIS 392 or 492). The purpose of the Independent Study is to provide students the opportunity to pursue individual interests in areas not otherwise available in the curriculum. Applications are reviewed on the basis of GPA, instructor recommendation(s), and demonstrated interest and competence in the proposed area of study. Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, a major GPA of at least 3.0, and must have completed a minimum of 60 credits.
  • Each credit is roughly equivalent to 15 hours of work
  • Relevance to your degree program and professional goals
  • How your goals will be pursued; what resources you will use
  • The nature and scope of the project
  • How your progress will be assessed and evaluated (research paper, performance, portfolio, etc.)
