Sarah Briland has been working in higher education since 2007, both in geoscience research at the University of Kentucky and as a faculty member in VCU’s Art Foundation Program and Craft/Material Studies Department and in the Art & Design Department at Virginia State University. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the VCU Craft/Material Studies Department and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington University in St. Louis where she was the Conway Scholar. Her work has been exhibited nationally including shows at the KMAC Museum in Louisville, the American Museum of Papermaking in Atlanta, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, New York. Her work has appeared in American Craft magazine, The UrbanGlass Quarterly, and the Corning Museum of Glass New Glass Review.
As an advisor, Sarah specializes in grant writing and artist residency programs and enjoys connecting students to opportunities while promoting wellness through mindfulness and mindset intervention techniques.
