Colleen Potter Thorburn currently plays principal harp with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra in New London, Connecticut, and as a touring artist with the Virginia Commission for the Arts. A past winner of the American Harp Society’s Anne Adams competition, Colleen has also performed as a harp fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, as a young artist at the International Festival-Institute in Round Top, Texas, and as an artist-in-residence at the Atlantic Music Festival in Waterville, Maine. Colleen maintains a private studio in southwest Virginia, where she serves as president of the Southwest Virginia harp chapter of the American Harp Society, teaches music courses as an instructor at Bluefield College, and offers summer instruction as founding harp faculty at Coda Mountain Academy in West Virginia. An advocate for new music, Colleen performs and commissions new works with the horn-and-harp duo Apple Orange Pair with hornist Emily Boyer.
Colleen holds degrees in harp performance from Yale (DMA, MM, MMA) and the University of Illinois (BM), and her teachers include June Han, Ann Yeung, and Laura Hearne.
