Marta Finkelstein graduated with her BFA in Ceramics from Indiana University in 2012. Since then, she expanded her artistic practice to the moving image and animation. Her work addresses the role of sexual repression in a patriarchal society, and the negative results that occur for the individual. Throughout history, sexual repression has manifested itself within society as imbalanced power structures. Those who hold more power often abuse it in order to marginalize those who do not conform to hegemonic sexual norms. Using both human and animal figures and often blurring the line between the two, she attempts to subvert a long held belief that sexuality is unnatural or evil.
