What is VCU Fashion?
The Department of Fashion Design and Merchandising has over 300 students enrolled in two educational tracks:  Fashion Design (BFA) and Fashion Merchandising (BA).  The department is unique in that both programs are jointly housed so that design and merchandising students can learn about the fashion industry together.  The mission statement for VCU Fashion is to prepare students for varied careers in the fashion industry emphasizing analytic abilities, creative problem solving, and a global perspective.  Another distinctive aspect of the department is the direct relationship with our “sister” department on the School of the Arts campus in Doha, Qatar.  The Department of Fashion Design and Merchandising is a university member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

World Class
The ever-changing world of fashion is one of the greatest global and economic forces.  With the commitment to providing a worldwide perspective of the fashion industry to students, there are many opportunities for students to experience fashion internationally.  A study abroad experience is highly encouraged.  Fashion in Florence is a summer and semester study abroad program for both design and merchandising students.  The VCUQ (VCU Qatar) Exchange program is also open to both design and merchandising students and is a semester program. International field trips are planned during spring break to destinations such as Paris, London, and Florence.  The department also coordinates numerous field trips organized by the faculty to New York.
