Allison Carole Smith is a ceramic sculptor who was raised in Fluvanna County, a small rural area located in Palmyra, Virginia. Allison’s foundations in art began at Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville under the Fine Arts course of study. Upon her acceptance into Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Allison began working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Craft and Material Studies with a focus in clay.

As an undergrad, Allison uses ceramic sculpture as a way to reflect her personal inhibitions into the physical world. Allison investigates the qualities of anxiety surrounding body image and applies it towards work that focuses on the abstracted human figure. She is continuing her education at VCU in their Post Baccalaureate Program and is hoping to pursue her MFA in the future.
