Wafaa Bilal, “The Things I Could Tell…”
November 3 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
In conjunction with the 2017 Hamad bin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art, the Anderson will host a range of exhibitions focused on student engagement and dialogue surrounding critical issues in contemporary Islamic Art.
An Associate Arts Professor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Bilal is known internationally for his on-line performative and interactive works provoking dialogue about international politics and internal dynamics. In “The Things I Could Tell…” Bilal collapses perceived cultural and historical distances by locating insights first made during the Islamic Golden Age within current psychiatric practices of chromotherapy. Specifically, as it concerns the treatment of trauma within the contemporary cultural landscape.
Exhibitions will take place at the historic Anderson building from Nov. 1, 2017—Jan. 5, 2018, with an opening reception on Friday, Nov. 3, 5-9pm.
