VCUarts Tour Guide and Office Assistant

Job Title: VCUarts Tour Guide and Office Assistant
Campus: Monroe Park Campus
Work Location: 609 Bowe Street
Hours per week: 5 -15
Pay per hour: $9

Duties:

Tour Guides answer general questions and lead prospective students, parents and other guests on tours of VCUarts facilities. Tours are held M-F from 1pm until approximately 3:30pm. Tour guides typically give 1-2 tours per week. Tour Guides also assist with on campus events such as Open Houses, Portfolio Day, and Commencement, which are held on Saturdays. Guides typically work 3 Saturdays per semester.

Tour guides also work in the office during other hours of the day, schedule permitting. Tour Guides must enter data into the Filemaker database, including student, teacher, and school contact information. They write and mail thank you cards to prospective students who come to visit campus. They are responsible for delivering campus mail to and from the Dean’s Office twice daily.

Tour Guides must monitor the quantity of viewbooks and other print materials at the Welcome Center and in the Admissions Office, and stock as needed. They perform light cleaning, organization, and general office duties such as copying, faxing, and answering the phone. Tour Guides must assist in processing bulk mailings – that includes stuffing and addressing envelopes. Tour Guides are occasionally responsible for schlepping heavy boxes of books across campus (dolly provided).
Tour Guides are required to staff the front desk in the Dean’s Office and other departmental offices as needed. While at the front desk they must answer the phone, greet and direct visitors, sort mail, and assist with other front desk duties. Professionalism and friendliness is a must.
Tour guides are the backbone of the VCUarts admission team. Enthusiasm for VCUarts is of utmost importance. Reliability is key.

 

Qualifications:

  • MUST be a student within the School of the Arts – NO EXCEPTIONS. If your current major is not within the School of the Arts (http://arts.vcu.edu/programs/undergraduate-programs/), please do not apply for this posting.
  • MUST be available at least one day per week from 1pm – 3:30pm to give tours.
  • MUST be positive, enthusiastic, polite and friendly.
  • Must have keen attention to detail.
  • Must be trustworthy, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
