Position Description
The Department of Fashion Design and Merchandising seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor in Fashion Merchandising. This is a full-time nine-month tenure eligible faculty position. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in Fashion Merchandising that may include but are not limited to a combination of the following classes: Retail Buying, Importing and Exporting Fashion, Supervision and Management, Fashion Forecasting, Product Development, Fashion Promotions and Survey of the Fashion Industry
- Academic advising, service to the school and department, working collaboratively with Fashion Design and Merchandising faculty, staff, students and guest artists and designers, and continuing professional work/scholarship in the field of Fashion Merchandising
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree preferred (MA, MS, M.Ed., MBA) or equivalent professional experience that equates to an advanced degree
- Demonstrated experience for effective teaching
- Significant professional/ industry experience
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Demonstrated ability to help students transition from academia to the professional world is preferred
