The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Music is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Music Education with a specialization in String Music Education.

Responsibilities: This position is a tenure-eligible faculty position in Music Education. The successful candidate will work with Music Education Faculty in a collaborative approach emphasizing team teaching. He or she will teach Methods and Techniques courses in Music Education; team teach Conducting; and participate in Practicum and Student Teaching supervision. The candidate will work with Director of Music Education in curricular and program development; assist with identification and placements in an extensive field-based undergraduate Music Education program; and fulfill other responsibilities as needed including working with the department on admissions and recruitment and providing leadership and service in String Music Education locally, regionally, and nationally.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Music Education; ABD considered. Applicants must demonstrate: evidence of potential success teaching and developing programs in PK-12 String Music Education; potential or ability to make innovative contributions within a collaborative and progressive setting; potential for national publication and for leadership in Music Education; the faculty member will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, as appropriate, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department; and the faculty member must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
