Award Winning VCU Opera

Screen Shot 2013-01-25 at 10.19.12 AM

In the past year, VCU Opera has received three awards from the National Opera Association. In November 2011, their spring ’11 production of Hansel & Gretel won 2nd Place in the National Video Competition.

In early November 2012, the VCU Opera spring ’12 production of The Old Maid & The Thief won 1st Place in its NOA division.

A Carmen quintet scene from their fall ’11 production was one of five scenes selected as a National Finalist for the NOA Conference, taking place in Portland, Oregon in January 2013. The scene they prepared for this NOA Conference, which won 3rd place, was the duet from La Boheme featuring Rodolfo and Marcello played by VCU junior Chappell Lee, tenor and VCU sophomore Alex Harper, baritone.
