Creative Arts Day Camp
The Department of Art Education at VCUarts is offering the Creative Arts Day Camp for children rising into grades K- 9. Classes are divided by age groups and typically three to four classes are offered each session. The camp gives participants experience in various art media such as: digital art, sculpture, painting, clay, fibers, printmaking and drawing. Classes are held on VCU campus and will be taught by undergraduate and graduate art education students. Each session will focus on a different theme so participants can sign up for one, two or all three sessions!
Investigation NOW: The Familiar, Strange, and Transformative
This semester, the Department of Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University is offering an art-based multi-disciplinary educational program for 8th and 9th grade students. The program uses art as a form of inquiry to explore contemporary issues (to include concepts such as tension, risk, and distortion) that transcend disciplinary boundaries. Through the hands-on exploration of the contemporary, students will dig into how these ideas intersect and overlap in the real world. This class takes place for 10 three-hour sessions on Friday evenings and is taught by graduate and undergraduate pre-service art educators.
This program is for you if:
- You love thinking across boundaries.
- You enjoy experimenting with different ways of making art.
- You see art as an important part of the world.
- You want to dig deeply into contemporary art ideas.
